Meet the Cast and Production Team of The Spider or The Fly?

Allie Charton (Jan)
Allie is very excited to be back at the Towle Theater for her 3rd season and is grateful to be working with Jeff and Kevin for their last! Allie's two other shows at the Towle include Hope and Gravity as Jill/Barb and Women in Jeopardy! as Amanda. Allie's other past Chicago credits include Sunday Evening (Jenny) at the Greenhouse Theater Center and Acting Up as Bethany in a YouTube web series. When Allie is not acting, you can catch her at the McDonald’s Headquarters within property management. Like always, ordering a six-piece chicken nugget and a diet coke.

 Allie wants to thank Jeff, Kevin, and Nora – as well as the incredible cast and crew!  

Martin Downs (Scott)
Martin is thrilled to return to the Towle once more, previously appearing as Steve in Hope & Gravity, Lee Harvey Oswald in Mama's Boy, and many other plays as part of the Towle Youth Theatre Ensemble. Other credits include Peter Pan in Peter Pan, Freak/Eric in Columbinus and Sam Byck in Assassins. Martin is also a co-founder and Artistic Director of Laughing Stock Theatre, directing and performing in four Commedia dell'Arte shows and performing in four more since 2019. Martin graduated with a Theatre degree from ChiArts and Northwestern University and has studied Commedia across Chicago and Italy. 

Mary Margaret McCormack (Maura)
Mary Margaret is delighted to be making her Towle debut as Maura! Recent credits include: Pearl in the World Premiere of Night of the Hunter (City Lit Theater), Mollie Ralston in The Mousetrap (Citadel), Sally Bowles in I Am A Camera (Porchlight Music Theatre), Mary Hatch in It’s a Wonderful Life (Oil Lamp), Nellie in Playboy of the Western World (City Lit), Hope Langdon in Something’s Afoot (Madkap), Portia in Something Rotten! (Theater Nebula), Belle in A Christmas Carol (Metropolis). Mary studied theatre at Millikin University with a focus in vocal performance. Mary Margaret has too many hobbies and can be found sewing, painting, or making fancy cocktails.

Jimmy Rau (Tom)
Jimmy is very excited to begin his debut at the Towle Theater as the role of Tom in The Spider or The Fly?.   Jimmy Is an actor who has been in love with acting from as far back as he can remember. He takes acting classes in Chicago at the Green Shirt Studio to constantly work on his craft. His most recent stage credits include 4th Street Theater’s production of Sleeping Indoors (Dwain), Chicago Actors Studios production of The Lieutenant of Inishmore (Davy) and their production of Lone Star (Ray). His past credits include Art (Yvan), Crimes of the Heart (Barnette Lloyd) and Deers (Owl).
Jimmy would like to thank Jeff and Kevin for giving him the chance to work with them, and his acting teacher James Stone for helping him become a more honest actor and person.

Jeff Casey (Director)
When Jeff started doing theater nearly 50 years ago, he never would have imagined where he is today. The Spider or The Fly? marks Jeff ’s 92nd directorial project, 87th here at Towle. In addition, he’s choreographed more than 40 shows and produced nearly 130 productions here at Towle since we opened in 2003.

Nora Wragg (Assistant to the Director)
Nora is delighted to be working alongside such a talented cast and creative team. She is a former member of the Towle Youth Theater Ensemble, having previously performed in Chicago, Peter Pan, and Carrie. Nora is a recent graduate of Western Illinois University with a BFA Musical Theater and is currently Music Directing Bishop Noll Institute's Matilda.

Max Mayhew-Martin (Stage Manager)
Max is a multi-hyphenate artist, currently working as a stage manager in the Chicagoland area. Recent highlights in his career include his work as the stage manager for The Beverly Arts Center’s Southside summer production of Hello Dolly, as head makeup artist and designer for The Beverly Theatre Guild’s production of The Wizard of Oz as well as his current position at Governor’s State University, stage managing the documentary play The Exonerated. When Max isn’t in the theatre, you can find him at home writing about it. Max first discovered his passion for theatre as a young playwright, writing short plays for his friends to perform around his hometown of Crete, IL. To this day, he continues to write, with the past seven years of his life dedicated to developing his passion project: a choose your own adventure play. RJ Cecott (Fight Choreographer)
RJ is an award-winning actor, and graduate of Illinois State University with a Bachelor of Science in Acting. No stranger to the Towle, RJ has been seen onstage in Mama’s Boy, Night Tide and Women in Jeopardy! Though he is new to choreographing fights himself, he's performed fights onstage many-a-times, including fighting his own hand as Ash in Evil Dead: The Musical (you can see that madness at www.rjcecott.com/evil-dead-the-musical) Recent fight choreography includes Deathtrap, Clue (where he also portrayed Mr. Green), Newsies, and Witch (where he also portrayed Frank Thorney).

Kevin Bellamy (Set/Costume Design)
This show marks Kevin’s 115th production at the Towle Theater and his 185th production to date.  He has enjoyed his time over the past 19 years performing and designing sets, costumes, and sound for the Towle.  Some of his favorites were The House of Mirrors and Hearts, Standby, Hollywood Arms, Ruthless, Ordinary Days and Next to Normal.  Kevin has had the chance to work with some amazingly talented artists over the years and would like to thank them publicly for sharing their time and talent here at the Towle Theater.  He is also thankful to have had the opportunity to create art side by side with his husband, Jeff Casey.  Lastly, he would like to thank all of the patrons who have filled our theater with laughter and tears over the years.
